Welcome to the Big Bear Hiking Adventures FAQ page!

Here, we address common questions to help you prepare for your upcoming hiking adventure with us. If you have any other inquiries, feel free to contact us. Or you can learn more about general hiking in the San Bernardino National Forest here.

Do I need a parking pass?


Yes, a parking pass is required. For our hikes, the pass is included. For future trips on your own, you can purchase day passes for $5, and annual passes for $30. You can purchase them using zip code 92315 at the U.S. Forest Service.

Do I need trekking poles?

Trekking poles can be helpful but are completely optional.

Do you need a wilderness permit to hike in Big Bear?

No, a wilderness permit isn’t required for most areas. However, if you plan to hike in the San Gorgonio Wilderness, a permit is necessary. More information can be found on the U.S. Forest Service website.

Do you rent gear?

Coming soon! We will offer rentals for day packs, water bottles, socks, trekking poles, and buffs. Check back later for more details.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are permitted on public and private hikes unless otherwise noted. You must sign a waiver for them, and they need to be on a leash and under your control at all times.

What is not permitted?

For safety and environmental reasons, the following are not allowed:
Smoking
Drugs
Alcohol
Drones

Cancellation/Refund Policy

All reservations are charged in full at the time of booking and are nonrefundable. However, we reserve the right to modify or cancel any tour due to unsafe conditions determined by the guide on the day of the hike. In such cases, a refund will be issued.

Most weather is not a deterrent when it comes to hiking. We sometimes hike in snowy/icy or rainy/muddy conditions. These real-world conditions offer opportunities to discuss how to travel safely in diverse conditions. With that being said, Big Bear Hiking Adventures, LLC reserves the right to modify or cancel any tour due to any unsafe conditions determined by the guide on the day of the hike. In the event of a guide-related cancellation, a refund will be issued in the form of payment used during your booking.  No-shows are nonrefundable. You are considered a no-show if the tour leaves before your arrival.

Can I leave my orange and banana peels on the trail? They are biodegradable.

What is the age requirement for Big Bear Hiking Adventures hikes?

Our hikes are generally designed for people over the age of 7. However, our special events may have higher or lower minimum ages. If so, it will be clearly noted.
