Prepare for your hike with confidence. At Big Bear Hiking Adventures, we lay out the gear, clothing, and supplies that make your outdoor experience safe, comfortable, and enjoyable.
Day Hikes

- Comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes, hiking boots, or athletic shoes.
- Ankle‑height or taller socks.
- Layers of clothing to match the weather.
- A daypack big enough for snacks, water, and extra layers.
- Trekking poles (optional).
- Food and water: we recommend no less than 1 liter (32 oz) of water per person and high‑energy snacks.
- Sun protection: sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, chapstick, etc.
- Personal medications.
Training Hikes

- Hiking shoes or boots, or trail runners; ankle gaiters if available.
- Moisture‑wicking socks.
- Whatever you have of the “10 Essentials.”
- Layers: base layer, insulating layer, outer layer.
- A daypack large enough to carry those essentials.
- Bring your trekking poles even if you don’t use them.
- Food and water: again, at least 1 liter (32 oz) per person and high‑energy snacks.
- A paper map of the area – yes a good ol’ paper map. They are available at the Big Bear Visitor Center.
