There’s a reason people come to Big Bear. The forests, the wildlife, the quiet trails, the granite peaks, and the views have a way of reminding us how good it feels to be outside.
We’re lucky to spend so much time here. We believe that comes with a responsibility to take care of the places we love.
Environmental stewardship is part of how we approach every adventure. We practice responsible recreation and share what we know about the natural world. We also encourage our guests to leave the mountains just as they found them…or a little better.
Because the more connected we feel to a place, the more likely we are to care about what happens to it.

Caring for the mountains isn’t limited to what happens on the trail. We look for ways to reduce our impact, educate our guests, and support the places and organizations working to protect the outdoors.
Leave No Trace
We practice and share Leave No Trace principles on our guided hikes, helping guests understand how simple choices, like staying on designated trails, packing out what they bring in, respecting wildlife, and leaving natural objects where they belong, can help protect the places we love.
Reduce Waste
We look for practical ways to reduce waste throughout our business, from digital booking and communications to minimizing unnecessary paper and single-use materials.
Respect Wildlife
Wild animals are part of what makes the San Bernardino Mountains special. We encourage responsible wildlife viewing and give animals the space they need to remain wild.
Protect the Trails
We encourage responsible trail use and help our guests understand how their choices can affect vegetation, soil, wildlife habitat, and the experience of other visitors.
Support Conservation
Our commitment extends beyond the hikes we lead. BBHA supports organizations and initiatives working to protect public lands and promote responsible recreation, including conservation partners and the Pacific Crest Trail community.

Green Certified

In April 2026, Big Bear Hiking Adventures became a certified Green Business through the Big Bear Valley Green Business Program, a Care for Big Bear initiative.
For us, certification is more than a badge. It’s a reflection of the choices we make behind the scenes to operate more responsibly and reduce our impact on the mountain environment.
From the way we manage our day-to-day operations to the way we educate guests about responsible recreation, we’re always looking for practical ways to do better.

Our Environmental Policy

At Big Bear Hiking Adventures, protecting the natural environment is central to our mission. Our business exists because of the beauty, wildlife, forests, and public lands that make Big Bear a special place to explore. We are committed to conducting our operations in a way that minimizes our environmental impact and supports the long-term health of the mountain community.
To support this commitment, we:
1. Follow and promote Leave No Trace principles on every hike.
2. Educate guests about responsible recreation, wildlife awareness, and forest stewardship.
3. Partner with local conservation and community organizations whenever possible.
4. Reduce waste by using digital waivers, an online booking system, electronic communications, and QR codes in place of printed materials whenever practical.
5. Purchase previously used furniture, equipment, and supplies when appropriate.
6. Use environmentally responsible printed materials, including recycled-content or FSC-certified paper products when printing is necessary.
7. Encourage carpooling and responsible transportation practices for hiking events.
8. Continually look for ways to reduce waste, conserve resources, and improve the sustainability of our operations.
We believe that outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. By helping visitors connect with nature, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the forests, wildlife, and natural resources that make Big Bear Lake such a remarkable destination.
